How does a green gas blowback airsoft rifle work?

Where does the gas go? How do you put the gas in? And what exactly is a gas operated magazine? I'm planning on buying my own green gas blow-back rifle that has a gas magazine but I don't really know how this type of rifle works because I'm used to CO2 sub machine guns and pistols. Thank you for your help.

  1. Green gas (propane and a lubricant typically graphite) canisters are usually housed in the handle of whatever rifle you are planing on using. Some varieties house the gas in the clip. You fill it with a green gas bottle just like a butane lighter.
  2. http://www.airsplat.com/Items/GR-KJW-M4-CARB.htm the green gas is stored in the magazine itself and is filled like you would a butane lighter. you can also run these guns on propane as well. on a blowback model, it opperates just like an actual firearm. the gas pushes the bolt back to the rear to load the next round. they have a lot of moving parts and generally a lot of fun to shoot. the biggest difference between green gas and CO2 is that green gas has silicone mixed in with it to keep it lubricated!
  3. OneThreeBravo has it right, great description of how this works. You can also find a lot of tips on operating a Gas Airsoft Gun on this link: http://www.airsplat.com/Airsoft-Gas-Gun-Instructions.htm
  4. Depending upon the gun the gas should go in the magazine. Sometimes the gas will fill in the bolt. It should be very similar to the CO2, you just wont need to have the cartridge in the whole time.
