How does dry gas affect a gasoline engine?

I was once told by my mechanic that since I didn't drive my car much I should add a bottle of dry gas every fill up.I fill my car up once every 2 months.I have never had any bad results with this and have been doing it for years. I recently had water in my gas in my lawn mower(probably due to condensation)and was told by the repairman not to add dry gas to the gas because of plastic and rubber parts. Is this any different from a car due to the size of engine. Same proportions of dry gas to gas.

  1. You must be in very very cold weather to were condensation would freeze over right? there is no reason to be adding dry gas which is practically alcohol. if you did add that to your car like your lawn mower, they both have rubber and plastic parts you rarely see a metal gas tank any more. both have rubber and plastic. all that would matter is how much of the dry gas your putting in to how many gallons of gas your mixing it with. by the way alcohol is highly corrosive to fuel lines.
  2. Dry gas is mostly methanol or ethanol, so it's similar to using gasohol. If you can use gasohol in your mower, it should be safe enough to use dry gas in similar proportions, usually up to 10%, but don't add it to gasohol, which would serve no purpose.
  3. Dry Gas is probably just methlyated spirits, a mix of ethanol and methanol avail in Oz. Now has anti drinking additives. You could use either in your tank, abt 500cc in a tankfull will dissolve most water, and decoke your engine rather well too.
